Can I give this show more than 5 stars? Magnificent! Mindblowing!!!! A brilliant twist on Mozart raises the roof in Zankel Hall!!!! Mozart, Her Story - The New Musical was simply brilliant tonight! AMAS Musical Theatre presented this staged concert version of a new musical by Tegan Summer (book & lyrics) and Gregory Nabours (music, orchestrations & additional lyrics)...and it is AWESOME!!! This is a powerful telling of the story of "Nan" Mozart...the daughter of Leopold and sister to Wolfgang...as the clever director tells us, it is an 'untold story...taken from History...inspired by true events'...and what a story!!!!! The tangled web of deceit throughout...women subjugated in their musical endeavors...and genuine talents used as pawns with unscrupulous and deceitful managers...and yes, lovers too. But the best part...the BEST part ... performances of such compelling force...able to take their voices to giddy heights in an ungodly power...but then sweeping to the sweetest of purity without losing a moment of intensity...keeping us sitting on the edge of our seats. It was awesome!!!! And, the use of some brilliant and quirky ballet throughout...almost like a dancing "Greek chorus"...a cast that was superb from the chorus to wonderful characters. The staging by Stephanie Klemons was remarkable in its simplicity and matched with that music...oh, that MUSIC!!!! I couldn't begin to praise just one member of the cast...they all grabbed the brass ring! But, I would be remiss to not point out Kennedy Caughell as Nan ( a voice with savage power and the sweetest of sweetness) , Robert Cuccioli as Leopold, Kate Rockwell as Constanze, wife of Mozart...wow! What a great comic fierceness! Justin Matthew Sargent as Wolfgang...delicious! But, the acting throughout simply reeked of comic genius and spot on dark humor. It also tugged at your heartstrings. This is a story that has to be told...and boy...It is in the best of hands! Brava to all concerned! Wake up Broadway! Here's comes Mozart on speed!!!!
